What is Elastin

Elastin is a type of protein found in skin and other tissues of the body. It functions in the skin similar to that of elastic. It gives the skin the ability to stretch and move then pulls it back into its normal shape. Elastin keeps the skin move and allows it to stretch with parts of the body move.

As we age our the amount of elastin in our body reduces. Since it helps keep the skin smooth and flexible the reduction is what causes our skin to wrinkle as we age.
