What is Arthralgia

When talking to your doctor or reviewing medical records you may see the term arthralgia.

Arthralgia simply means joint pain.

Most of the time the word is used to describe any form of arthritis that causes joint pain. It can also refer to trauma to a joint or a fracture in a joint. There are many things that can cause joint pain. The most common are infection, trauma to a joint, allergic reactions, auto-immune disease and other chronic diseases.

There are many causes for arthralgia. It can be caused by a virus such as the flue which causes your muscles, joints and much of your body to be in pain. Over use such as in sports and injuries are the second largest cause. Of course when many people see the term they think of arthritis.
